NinjaTrader Import Guide
AlgoChef accepts trade history exports from NinjaTrader 8 as CSV files. Follow these steps to export your data and import it into AlgoChef.
Exporting from NinjaTrader 8
- Open NinjaTrader 8
- Go to New → Trade Performance
- In the Trade Performance window, select the account and date range you want to export
- Click the Trades tab — it lists round-trip trades, one row per trade from entry to exit
- Right-click anywhere in the trade list and select Export to CSV
- Save the file
Tip
Export the longest date range available — more trades give a more reliable statistical picture.
Importing Into AlgoChef
- In the app sidebar, open Add Strategies, then click Import Strategy Data
- Upload your NinjaTrader CSV file
- Pick the NinjaTrader system template from the template menu — it maps the Trades export for you, including its date and time columns
- Fill in the strategy settings (name, instrument, timeframe, position type, timezone) and your Initial Capital
- Review the preview and click Save to Database
NinjaTrader Column Reference
If you map by hand instead of using the template, these are the matches:
| NinjaTrader Column | Wizard label |
|---|---|
| Entry time | EntryDate + EntryTime |
| Exit time | ExitDate + ExitTime |
| Entry price | EntryPrice |
| Exit price | ExitPrice |
| Profit | ProfitLoss_Dollar |
| Market pos. | Direction |
| Qty | Contracts |
| Commission | Commission |
| MAE / MFE | MAE_Dollar / MFE_Dollar |
Troubleshooting
Date format not recognized? The NinjaTrader template expects MM/DD/YYYY dates, NinjaTrader's usual US format. If your NinjaTrader writes dates in a different order (a non-US Windows locale can do this), pick the matching date format in the wizard before saving.
Missing or doubled trades? Make sure you exported from the Trades tab, not Executions. Executions lists every fill separately (an entry and an exit are two rows); the Trades tab gives one complete row per round-trip trade, which is what AlgoChef needs.
Profit showing as 0 or wildly off? Ensure the Profit column holds per-trade P&L in currency, not points or ticks — NinjaTrader's Trade Performance display unit controls what gets exported.
Tip
Changed the columns or their order in your NinjaTrader export? Adjust the mapping once and save it as your own template — you can reuse it on any later import, including across a whole batch of files.
