Risk Disclosure
Last updated: April 11, 2026
⚠️ Trading involves substantial risk of loss. You may lose some or all of your invested capital. Do not trade with money you cannot afford to lose. AlgoChef is an analytical tool, not financial advice.
This Risk Disclosure is incorporated by reference into our Terms of Service. By using AlgoChef, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accepted this Risk Disclosure in its entirety.
1. What AlgoChef Is (and What It Is Not)
AlgoChef is a web-based analytical tool for systematic traders. We help you analyze, validate, and monitor trading strategies using statistical methods applied to historical trade data that you upload.
AlgoChef is not:
- A broker, exchange, or market maker
- A trading signal service
- A financial advisor, investment advisor, or portfolio manager
- A registered investment firm with any securities regulator
- A provider of financial, legal, accounting, or tax advice
AlgoChef does not execute trades, hold customer funds, or manage money. We do not recommend any specific trade, strategy, instrument, or investment.
2. Limitations of Backtested Analysis
All analysis on AlgoChef is based on historical trade data that you upload. This means every metric, chart, score, and simulation you see is a reflection of the past — not a prediction of the future.
Backtested results do not account for:
- Execution quality — slippage, partial fills, rejected orders, latency
- Transaction costs — commissions, spreads, exchange fees, regulatory fees
- Market impact — your own orders moving the market against you
- Liquidity constraints — the availability of sufficient size at your intended price
- Live market conditions — real-time volatility, news events, circuit breakers
- Tax implications — capital gains, wash sales, different tax treatments by jurisdiction
- Platform failures — broker outages, connectivity issues, exchange halts
The quality of every AlgoChef output depends entirely on the quality and completeness of the data you upload. Incomplete data, rounded numbers, missing trades, or incorrect timestamps will distort every downstream calculation. Garbage in, garbage out.
Past performance is not indicative of future results. A strategy that performed well historically may fail in the future for reasons that backtests cannot anticipate.
3. Limitations of Proprietary Scores
AlgoChef calculates a family of proprietary scores including a composite score, along with profitability, risk, confidence, and health/degradation signals. These are analytical heuristics based on statistical analysis of historical trade data.
You should understand that:
- Scores may be miscalibrated, biased, or incomplete. We continuously research and refine the scoring methodology, and future versions may produce different results from past versions.
- A high score does not predict future profitability. It only reflects that the historical data, as supplied, met our statistical criteria at the time of calculation.
- A low score does not guarantee future losses. It reflects historical weakness in the data supplied, not a determination of future performance.
- Scores are one input, not a trading decision. They should be combined with your own due diligence, domain knowledge, and risk management.
- Scoring thresholds, tier labels ("Excellent", "Good", "Caution", "Failed"), and interpretive copy are editorial conventions chosen to be intuitive; they are not regulatory classifications and have no endorsed meaning outside AlgoChef.
Nothing in the scoring system constitutes an endorsement or recommendation of any strategy.
4. Limitations of Monte Carlo and Statistical Simulations
AlgoChef provides Monte Carlo simulations, in-sample/out-of-sample (IS/OOS) analysis, stress testing, capital sizing, and risk-of-ruin calculations. These are statistical models.
All statistical models share these limitations:
- Their outputs are probabilistic estimates, not guarantees.
- They assume that the statistical properties of your historical trades (mean, variance, autocorrelation, regime behavior) will persist into the future. This assumption frequently breaks.
- They cannot anticipate tail events, regime shifts, structural changes, or black swans — the exact scenarios that most often destroy trading accounts.
- Resampling methods (shuffle, bootstrap, block bootstrap, parametric, stress+) each make different assumptions about what features of the original data to preserve. No single method is "correct" — they offer complementary views of uncertainty.
- Confidence intervals, percentiles, and survival rates shown by the Monte Carlo engine are based on the supplied data and the selected resampling method. They are not guarantees that future outcomes will fall within any particular range.
Do not treat Monte Carlo outputs as forecasts.
5. Limitations of Portfolio Studio
Portfolio Studio generates algorithmic suggestions for allocation, rebalancing, strategy rotation, and composition — using historical trade data, user-selected configuration, and various optimization methods (mean-variance, Black-Litterman, risk parity, etc.).
These suggestions:
- Assume that historical correlations, volatilities, and return distributions will persist. During market crises, correlations often spike toward 1 and diversification benefits disappear.
- Do not account for live liquidity constraints, broker execution rules, minimum position sizes, margin requirements, or short-sale restrictions.
- Do not account for your personal financial circumstances, risk tolerance, tax situation, or investment objectives.
- Are only as good as the strategies you feed in. A portfolio of flawed strategies is a flawed portfolio.
- May produce results that look optimal in backtest but are fragile to real-world conditions ("optimization on noise").
AlgoChef makes no representation that following any Portfolio Studio recommendation will produce any particular result. Portfolio construction is a personal decision that should be made with full knowledge of your own financial situation, ideally in consultation with a licensed financial professional.
6. Your Responsibilities
By using AlgoChef, you acknowledge and agree that:
- You are solely responsible for all trading and investment decisions you make based on information, scores, or analysis obtained through the Service.
- You should consult a licensed financial advisor before making investment decisions based on any AlgoChef output, especially if you are new to trading or unsure about risk management.
- You should independently verify any analysis before risking real capital. Cross-check AlgoChef results against your broker statements, other analytical tools, and your own understanding of the strategy.
- You should only trade with capital you can afford to lose. Trading is not suitable for retirement funds, emergency savings, rent money, or borrowed capital.
- You should maintain your own records and not rely on AlgoChef as a system of record for your trading data.
7. Regulatory Status
AlgoChef is not registered with any securities or financial regulator, including but not limited to:
- The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) or any other Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) member
- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
- The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)
- The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)
- The German BaFin
- The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)
- Any other national or supranational financial regulator
AlgoChef does not execute trades, hold customer funds, custody assets, or act as a broker, dealer, adviser, fiduciary, or any other regulated role. Nothing on AlgoChef constitutes an offer to buy or sell any security, commodity, derivative, or financial instrument.
If you are operating in a jurisdiction that regulates analytical tools or require specific licensing for the activities you intend to perform with AlgoChef outputs, it is your responsibility to ensure compliance with local law.
